Mom and Dad are not empty nesters yet. A new report shows about 33% of Americans between the ages of 18 and 34 are still living with their parents. The highest levels ever were during the pandemic, when everything shut down and people moved home fast.
For reference, back in 1960, only about 22% of young adults lived at home.
And, I’m sure you can guess the reason. It’s money. Everything is so expensive, and wages haven’t kept up.
The top three states that have the most young adults living at home are: New Jersey at 44%, Connecticut at 41% and California at 39%. It’s 25.3% in Wisconsin.
And the states where young adults are least likely to live with their parents are: North Dakota at 12%, Wyoming at 16% and South Dakota at 18%.
