In a survey, 49% of people would rather inherit nothing at all than have to deal with a relative’s junk. And 51% would prefer a few, select items versus receiving everything a loved one owned.
In fact, only 20% say they’d choose to inherit “everything” if that was an option.
A lot of this comes from experience. 58% of Americans have already had to “clear out a relative’s home.” And 56% say it’s harder to grieve when you have to spend weeks sorting through everything they had.
Also: 45% say they’re running out of space in their own home as it is.
