Answer: A dozen roses
Clues: “Saturday” and “Thorns”
A new report analyzed the average price of a dozen roses throughout all 50 states, and California is easier on the wallet than Texas.
Overall, Americans can expect to spend $93.07 per dozen roses, which is up a whopping 16% from just three years ago. In 2023, the average price was “only” $80.16.
The state where a dozen roses cost the most is Hawaii at about $127. Kansas and Texas are tied for second at $113, followed by Montana, North Dakota, Maine, Wyoming, New York, Vermont and Washington state.
Indiana has the lowest prices, at $72 per dozen roses on average. Massachusetts is the second-cheapest at $75, followed by California at $78, then Pennsylvania, Alaska, New Mexico, Arizona, Rhode Island, Oregon and Illinois. In Wisconsin, it’ll cost you $85.33.
The report didn’t suggest why roses are soaring in price, so maybe it’s just expected that everything is becoming more expensive.
