Answer: Halloween Costumes

Clues: “Dress” and “Disguise”

In a new survey, 52% of parents say they’re planning to D-I-Y their kids’ costumes.  And the percentages were the highest in Colorado, Iowa, California, Maryland, and Arkansas.

Obviously, saving money is the #1 reason, since everything has become so expensive.

But there are other reasons.  Some parents say making costumes is more creative and unique.  Others say the costumes they want aren’t available, the quality isn’t worth the price, or it’s just a “family tradition” to make them.

The average DIY costume costs under $40, while the average ready-made costume costs well over $70.  And that adds up if you have to dress multiple trick-or-treaters.

81% of parents feel pressure to create “Instagram-worthy” costumes, with Idaho parents being the most stressed about that, followed by Missouri and Connecticut.

There aren’t a lot of details on what all these parents are making yet, but Pokémon is still popular, along with Taylor Swift costumes, Labubu, classic spooky costumes like witches, werewolves, ghosts, vampires, and skeletons, superheroes and other unique creations.
