Answer: Taking your phone to the bathroom

Clues: “Toilet” and “Scroll”

Most Americans take their phone to the bathroom with them, especially young people.  And a new study found it ups your risk for hemorrhoids by almost 50%.

Researchers polled 125 adults just before they went in for routine colonoscopies.  And two-thirds of them admitted they use their phone on the toilet.

The top two things they said they use it for are to catch up on news and scroll through social media.

Doctors doing the colonoscopies then looked for evidence of hemorrhoids.  And the people who used their phone in there were 46% more likely to have them.  It was true even after they accounted for things like fiber intake.

Ideally, you shouldn’t be in there for more than five minutes.  But the study found 37% of people who bring their phone with them take longer than that.
